This online textbook provides a concise resource that allows students to “walk through history” and leave with a better understanding of the challenges many in Hip Hop faced and conquered. The language written in each chapter will “take you inside” Hip Hop from the 1970’s through 2000.
GRL partnered with the online music streaming service Napster to provide students with access to the ORIGINAL versions of over 150 songs covered by the course. By pairing the collection of Hip Hop songs with the social and political context behind the music, students understand the significance and connection to today’s current Popular and Hip Hop music. Throughout the publication, students will develop skills to become more engaged listeners while being challenged to discuss and debate musical and cultural topics.
