Overview

The purpose behind this text is to inspire readers and establish a foundation and love for genetics. It details some of the great problem solvers in history and how their ideas have pushed the boundaries of what science can achieve. My goal is always to show you how genetics relates to YOU on a personal level, no matter what path has led you to this course or your career path moving forward. Genetics touches our lives from the beginning and has impacted our world greatly over the past 150 years. As we navigate the pandemic era, the tools presented here have never been more important.

About the Author
M Megan Reynolds

Dr. M. Megan Reynolds received her B.S. in Genetics from Texas A&M University in 1999., Before entering graduate school, she gained experience as a research assistant, learning skills using a variety of model organisms, including Drosophila melanogaster. After 5 years of research, Dr. Reynolds entered graduate school and earned her Ph.D. in Genetics from Texas A&M in 2010. Her work included the generation of a deletion library in Salmonella for detection of genes necessary for mice infection. In 2009, prior to completing her dissertation, Dr. Reynolds was tasked with coordination of the undergraduate genetics laboratory, paired with a comprehensive genetics lecture. Over the course of seven years, she overhauled and modernized the lab. Dr. Reynolds managed the separation of the lab from lecture in 2015, when the lab became a stand-alone course. She coordinated fifteen sections of lab per semester, while mentoring graduate teaching assistants. Dr. Reynolds switched roles and has been teaching the GENE 301 lecture course since 2016, sharing her passion for genetics in a different forum. She has consistently received excellent evaluations from students.
